STICKMAN
BATTLE

Stickman Battle was one of the weirdest — and most formative — projects I’ve ever worked on. It was also how I first broke into social media. At the time, I noticed a growing trend of creators committing to daily video challenges, such as “posting every day until I hit 10,000 followers.” I wanted to do something similar, but with a twist that felt genuinely original. So I came up with the idea of drawing a stickman battle every single day, adding one new character for every follower I gained.

These battles were something I used to draw as a kid, so the concept felt naturally nostalgic. I believed this would resonate with viewers emotionally, while still fitting into the fast-paced, daily-content format. The result was a series that blended consistency, storytelling, and interactivity—turning a simple drawing idea into an evolving narrative that people could follow, influence, and grow with.

The core hook was: “Adding a stickman to my stickman battle for every follower I get.”  At the start of each video, I restated this premise so viewers immediately understood what was going to happen and why it mattered.

The middle of each video focused on building anticipation. As I continued the battle, I slowly zoomed out, giving viewers something to wait for—the full reveal of the growing scene—which boosted retention.

At the end of each video, I used two clear prompts: “Comment what you want to see next,” to increase engagement and make the audience feel involved, and “Follow along to build the army,” as a strong, recurring call to action.

This structure was designed to maximize clarity, retention, and interaction—turning passive viewers into active participants.

Result

This strategy proved highly effective. Within the first six days, I gained over 2,000 followers. One of the top-performing videos reached 70,000 views, 2,000 likes, and 1,800 new followers—meaning nearly every person who liked the video also followed. Comments were consistently high across all videos, showing strong audience investment and participation.

Although I stopped after 20 days due to competing priorities, the goal was never long-term growth—it was to test whether this format worked. The results confirmed that it did, proving that interactive storytelling, a strong hook, and community-driven mechanics can drive rapid and meaningful growth.
